The Two Wolves-A Cherokee Story.
A young boy came to his Grandfather, filled with anger at another boy who had done him an injustice. The old Grandfather said to his grandson, “Let me tell you a story. I too, at times, have felt a great hate for those that have taken so much, with no sorrow for what they do. But hate wears you down, and hated does not hurt your enemy. Hate is like taking poison and wishing your enemy would die. I have struggled with these feelings many times.” "It is as if there are two wolves inside me: one wolf is good and does no harm. He lives in harmony with all around him and does not take offense when no offense was intended. He will only fight when it is right to do so, and in the right way. But the other wolf, if full of anger. The littlest thing will set him into a fit of temper.” “He fights with everyone, all the time, for no reason. He cannot think because his anger and hate are so great. It is helpless anger, because his anger will change nothing. Sometimes it is hard to live with these two wolves inside me, because both of the wolves try to dominate my spirit.” The boy looked intently into his Grandfather’s eyes and asked, “Which wolf will win, Grandfather? The Grandfather smiled and said, “The one I feed."

Carolina is a very well known psychiatrist in Sacramento area. She is a good friend of mine since we were 6 years old. When I finish teacher training at the yoga farm she came and visited me. Years after she recommended me to take MBSR to have the tools to work with psychiatric pacientes as she recognizes this method to be very beneficial for people with serious mental illnesses.
Here I am taking MBSR with my husband Paul at UCSD. 8 weeks of inner tour! We started last Thursday and in the group we have 28 more people plus the facilitators Allan and Melanie. In the introduction we were asked to say our names and something special about it. Then we were induced with an exercise to discover our purpose or intention to take the training. We were asked to put the intentions aside and be there with the "exploration" mind set. I am very pleased to take this training, since I don't like medications and I believe people can heal their selves and their lives if they are able to be the best friends of their minds, being mindful, nos judgmental and open to let go. |
